about

"Grotesque Reality and Savage, Frightening Dreams" is the second album by the solo music project, Istari. The name of the album, along with a few of the songs within it, derives from a quote in "The Great Gatsby." Unlike the first album, "The Deep Breath Before the Plunge," the songs on the second album were all written around the same time using seven string guitar and five string bass. The drums, however, received few changes and were still programmed in Pro Tools. The album was written entirely during Aaron Baer's first year in college and recorded the summer after. All the songs on this album are meant to fit together. They transition into one another and mostly remain in the same key, except In the middle, a transition occurs from major to minor showing the difference from the first more upbeat half to the second darker half. Once again, all guitars, bass, drum programming, mixing, and mastering was produced by Aaron Baer, while the artwork was again credited to Brennan Probst. The only difference was the addition of a introductory solo to "The End of Time" performed by John Wendt.

Istari started in summer 2011 when Aaron Baer decided to write a bunch of music. Since that summer, Aaron looked for other members, but received no such luck. Aaron decided to record everything he wrote in hopes of getting his music out there and finding some members.
